pondering the Bible

I have never read the bible in its entirety before. So I'm starting at Genesis and recording some things I find surprising.

Often "satanists" are condemned and blamed for animal sacrifice, but the bible is full of offerings of burnt and cut flesh offerings of blood. Jesus himself offered himself and his blood to the lord on an alter of sorts. To be as Jesus then is to sacrifice oneself for humanity not to murder in the name of the lord. Be the lamb upon the alter to protect life, not a soldier for Christ. This is how I read it anyhow.

It is a re-curring activity in Genesis to sacrifce animals at the alter and then to dream and/or have visions directly after. Why then do modern christians see this act as such an un-acceptable and taboo one.

Astrology, henotheism, animal sacrifice, constant use of the word "we" by the lord when referencing his actions towards man. "We shall confuse their tongue." etc.

extra-marital sex: Abraham and his wife's slave girl, Hagar Genesis 25:12. Abraham and his concubines Genesis 25:6 After the death of his first wife, Sarah, he took another, Keturah Genesis 25:1. Abraham offered his wife Sarah to the rulers of the lands they visited presenting her as his sister, which she was.

incest: Lot and his daughters. Abraham and his sister Sarah. Second cousins common place

polygamy: Jacob and his wives Gen 29:31 Gen 30

Public groping: Gen 28:8

Divination: Gen 30:27 Genesis Joseph and his brothers Genesis the signs

prostitution: Gen 38

Dreams of interest: [Joseph] had another dream, and told it to his brothers, saying, "Look I have had another dream: the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me." But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him, and said to him, "What kind of dream is this that you have had? Shall we indeed come, I and your mother and your brothers, and bow to the ground before you?" Gen 39:9

The Law concerning the Altar: Exodus 20:22
If a stone is met with a chisel for the altar then you profane it... All that is required is an altar of earth in the open and without steps so that your nakedness may not be exposed on it. Very similar to "pagan" altars.

God hardened the heart of pharoah. have compassion on those with troubles for the lord has made them that way and perhaps for a reason beyond your comprehension.

how come no one ever illustrates the part of the ten commandments when moses comes down, builds an alter with twelve pillars slaughters oxen and then splashes blood on everyone while they swear allegiance to god? That is such better imagery than holding rocks with lightning in the background

"He rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and set up twelve pillars, corresponding to the twelve trives of Israel. He sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed oxen as offerings of well-being to the Lord. Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he dashed against the altar. Then he took the book of the covenant, and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient." Moses took the blood and dashed it on the people and said, "See the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words."
